Blackboard: Advantages and Disadvantages

Blackboard is a tool provided for students and teachers to post and communicate together. It can be accesse from http://courses.gmu.edu/. Advantages and disadvantages of blackboard are listed below. Please comment based on your own experience with Blackboard.

Advantages of Blackboard:

  • Allows communication with students
  • Secure site
  • Provides calendar for students
  • Professors post assignments
  • Professors can post grades for students
Disadvantages of Blackboard:

  • Professors often do not post grades
  • Students might begin to skip class and just use Blackboard
  • Includes previous classes in menu screen
  • Can back up when lots of people are accessing it
  • Teachers have to set it up
